After five years Hyundai has decided to re-enter the premium sedan segment with their all-new Elantra. Badged as the i40, the new Elantra wears Hyundai’s new fluidic design language. Needless the say, the Elantra is a properly good looking car and based on the success of the Verna in India, expect the new Elantra to be a success as well.
Besides its looks, the new Elantra comes loaded with equipment like a touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav and Bluetooth, heated door mirrors and steering wheel, ventilated front seats, electric front seats with driver’s seat memory function, dual zone climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, keyless entry, start/stop function, front and rear parking sensors, automatic hill hold function and panoramic sunroof.
Under the hood the India bound models are likely to sport two power mills, a 1.8-litre petrol motor developing 150PS of power and 177Nm of torque and a 1.8-litre common-rail diesel engine.

The vehicle will sport safety features such as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and seven airbags as standard, including a driver’s knee airbag. Combined with the active safety features, the vehicle’s passive safety features ensured it a 5-star Euro-NCAP safety rating.
Hyundai’s new Elantra is expected to hit showrooms across India on August 13, 2012. Expected to be priced between Rs. 13 lakh to 16 lakh it will take on the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Skoda Superb, Renault Fluence and Chevrolet Cruze.
Judging by the success of the new Verna, expect Hyundai to launch stripped out trim versions of the Elantra in India.
